The fashion industry emits 2.1 billion tons of carbon dioxide per year. That's the same amount of emissions as about 450 million cars. Why so much? Because the fashion industry loves fossil fuels: it uses them to run its factories, transport its products, and produce its materials. That means a lot of the clothes we wear are made of plastic, which in turn is made of oil, a fossil fuel. It wasn't always this way - it's only been 80 years since people became obsessed with plastic - so Allbirds thought, "Wouldn't it be better to go back to using natural materials?"
